Do you have any idea how many insects are out there in the grass?
More than I will ever be able to count and more than I’ll ever be able to document. Instead of trying to see it all, I think I’ll just enjoy the things I find as I uncover them and always look forward to seeing something new.

Do you know how many mites are in there, so small that you cannot even see them, mostly doing things in the ecology that nobody has even bothered to study because so few people care about mites?
I imagine there are billions, including chiggers! There are probably about that many ticks and other arachnids too.
Reminds me of the day I discovered my yard was full of springtails. I’d never noticed them before, but they were all over the place. It’s easy to overlook the very small things, but I can only assume that anything that exists in such numbers must be very important.
I think your first observation of springtails opens up a whole new world of invertebrate possibilities to you! There are so very many of them – and many people don’t even know they exist.
