I was walking past my back door about a month ago and caught sight of something out of the corner of my eye. I went to inspect and discovered this:
A very tiny wasp! I’m betting it’s one of the parasitic wasps based on the diminutive size and enormous hind legs. I grabbed my iPhone and my “macro” lens and snapped a few photos because it was simply too adorable to pass up. Apparently my glass could do with a bit of cleaning though…

It’s some species of Chalcididae, I can tell you that much.
That’s as far as I got with my identification too. I never get much further than family on wasps though, especially these little guys.
I’m pretty sure he’s trying to welcome you to the neighborhood. “Hi C.L.! I hear you’re a friend of insects! Welcome to North Carolina!”
Ha ha! Perhaps! It’s best he/she was on my window and not someone else’s as it was likely to be swatted otherwise.
I’m glad you at least got that! Great picture. I’ve gotten a number of bird pictures through the glass of my back door and can sympathize with the need to move quickly and ignore the dirty glass.
The bottom picture of the hawk flying away nearly got missed due to a Post-It note my husband had on the door!

Nice! I don’t keep post-its on my door, but that’s totally the sort of thing I would do too. Glad you got a decent shot though! It’s much better than most of my attempts at flying birds!
