Well-Nigh Wordless Wednesday: Swarm

Winter is coming, so I am feeling a little dragonfly deprived.  Luckily, I opened one of my last remaining unpacked boxes last weekend and discovered the nearly life-life artificial dragonflies I had bought for my wedding and never used.  My office at the field station is in a trailer and it’s got those removable white tiles in the ceiling.  So, I bent the little wires on the dragonflies, slipped them under the tiles, and made myself a little dragonfly swarm in my corner of the office.  This is a terrible iPhone photo taken after dark in the harsh lights of the trailer, but you get the idea:

Now when I need a break, or get frustrated by something I’m working on, I can look up and see a dragonfly swarm right there!  Yay!

    • Thanks! Every now and again I find myself looking up at the ceiling when I’m tired of working on something, so it’s nice to have something to look at up there now. Those ceiling tiles aren’t very exciting otherwise.

    • I don’t remember!!! They were the very best ones and I can’t remember where I got them. There’s one online company that has some decent ones (http://www.floraltrims.com/decorative-bugs-ss2.html) and I feel like this was the place I ended up buying mine. However, I looked again last night, thinking I wanted to get more for my ceiling, and I couldn’t find the ones I bought. I bought them three years ago, so it’s always possible they don’t make them anymore. You might also search for 3d dragonflies on Etsy.com. They’ve got a lot of great paper and plastic dragonflies available that look a little more realistic if your project will work with something a little flatter.

    • Thanks! I think they’re fun and they’ve added some great color to my otherwise very boring ceiling. (Every time your little beagle avatar pops up, it makes me smile. They’re just so darned irresistible! I miss having beagles…)

        • Who doesn’t love a good beagle face? My dad’s beagle is 15 1/2 now and is STILL the most horribly behaved dog on the planet (like most beagles I’ve had or encountered), but one look at a beagle’s soppy little face is enough to make you forget every bad thing they’ve ever done. They’re just so CUTE! They get away with murder…

Have something to say?
