Check out the “hairdo” on this massive common green darner nymph:
A coworker of mine found it during a pond program last week and I was thrilled to have a chance to bring it home to photograph. It’s HUGE and really rocking that green hair – what’s not to love?

Awesome! What a ‘do!
Isn’t he (or she) cool? I love this dragonfly.
Very cool!
Great catch! I would like to see the portrait of this rocker :)
I sadly lost track of him in the short time between when I realized he was about to molt and I took the tank he was in outside and I went back out with my camera. It crawled out onto my bushes at night and I couldn’t find it in the dark, but it was gone the next morning. No molting shots or adult shots of this one unfortunately!
Dude (or dudette) looks way cool.
Glad you agree!
Made me chuckle this morning, thanks!
You’re welcome! Glad I could be of service. :)
cool dude! I love this guy.
So glad to hear it! I rather love the ‘do.
And it’s all natural without any fuss. Great pix
Right? No mouse or glue or super strength hair gel required! :)
Is it supposed to look like that?
Nancy
I don’t see a whole lot of them with algae all over them like this, but it DOES happen periodically. This one was particularly huge and had more algae than most, so I thought he was impressive.
He / it certainly was! Looked like a prehistoric monster in fact. I think Jurassic Park could have hired you to help with how the special effect monsters could look :)
